Sandra H. Rowley
May 25, 1940 - October 2, 2024
Sandra Rowley, age 84, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Parkcliffe Community in Northwood, OH, with her family by her side. She was born on May 25, 1940, in Dallas, Texas, to Clinton and Vivian Hegg (Jacobson). As a child, Sandy moved to Minnesota, where she was later baptized at Portland Ave. Lutheran Church. Sandy’s times at the cabin were some of her most cherished memories. Being at the cabin allowed Sandy to remain close to her family and friends.
Sandy moved to Maumee and attended Union School. She also attended and was confirmed at The First Presbyterian Church of Maumee, where she remained a member for nearly fifty years. Sandy graduated from Maumee High School in 1958 and then attended the University of Michigan. While there, she became a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She graduated from Michigan with her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene in 1962.
Sandy worked as a Dental Hygienist for 38 years in Toledo, working for several dentists including her brother-in-law Jim Stahl. She loved making sure everyone had a beautiful smile after she took care of them.
Sandy enjoyed dancing, entertaining, music, and rooting for the Wolverines. As a member of the Junior League, she dedicated her time to helping develop leadership in women and impact the community. She enjoyed raising money for Channel 30 (PBS) and became a member of PEO (Chapter T of Toledo), where she was a faithful member for over 50 years. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Wolcott Heritage Museum in Maumee, OH, for several years.
Sandy and her first husband, Marshall L. McClung II, married in February 1964 and had three children: Mars, Sarah, and Matt.
Sandy later married Richard (Dick) Rowley and enjoyed 47 years of marriage until he died in 2022. They enjoyed traveling, hosting family and friends, and outdoor activities, including boating, golf, and tennis. She served as an elder at The First Presbyterian of Maumee. Sandy and Dick were very involved in the churches they attended and the communities in which they resided. As a faithful churchgoer, she enjoyed participating in the Choir and Bell Choir at The Church in Aurora until 2015.
Sandy’s hobbies included gardening, entertaining, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her love of learning, beautiful smile, and laughter. Despite the challenges in her later years, she enjoyed outings, Bible study, dancing, dinners, and activities at Parkcliffe.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard Y. Rowley, brother C. Steven Hegg, brother-in-law James Rowley, and son-in-law Burckhard Flemming.
She is survived by her sister, Susan (James) Stahl, sister-in-law Lynda Hegg, sister-in-law Phyllis Rowley, and children, Marshall McClung, III, Sarah Flemming (Rowley), and Matthew (Christy) Rowley, grandchildren Sonja Stolmar-McClung, Ora Moss, Ellen Flemming, Andrew Flemming, Dillon Flemming, Kennedy Rowley, Addison Rowley, Nick Hemmert, Aiden Hemmert, and Averi Hemmert.
The family would especially like to thank the Parkcliffe and Elara Caring Hospice staff for their care.
A memorial service will be held at 11 o’clock on December 20th at First Presbyterian Church of Maumee. The family will receive guests one hour before the service, beginning at 10 o'clock. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Maumee in Sandra’s honor.
