Wichita, Kansas - Sandra's life began on January 17, 1942, in Wichita. She was the daughter of John and Henrietta (Pribbenow) Lockwood. Sandra was united in marriage to Floyd Rutschman on August 10, 1963, at the Federated Church in Whitewater. She earned her nursing degree as a registered nurse from Southwestern College in Winfield. Sandra worked as a registered nurse at many facilities over the years, retiring from St. Francis Hospital in Wichita in the early 2000's. She was a devoted animal lover and faithful member of the Federated Church. Sandra enjoyed poetry and creative writing as a young person and wrote many of her own poems. Sandra and Floyd enjoyed bowling as a young couple; later adopting camping as their favorite activity after their sons came along. Sandra also loved music, and sang for many years in the Valley Center Sweet Adelines. She spent many years volunteering in many capacities for local organizations and was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxillary. Sandra is survived by her two sons Kevin Rutschman and Kyle (Elizabeth) Rutschman, both of Whitewater; granddaughters Eva and Joy; her brother Stephen (Diane) Lockwood of Benton and several nieces and nephews. She passed away on Friday April 15, 2022, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital. Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, husband Floyd, sister Danna Fulkerson and brother David Lockwood. Her family will gather and greet friends to celebrate her life with a visitation on April 30th between 2:00 pm and 3:30 p.m. at the Whitewater American Legion. There will be a graveside service for close friends and family at Green Valley Cemetery, Furley, prior to the Celebration of Life. Lamb Funeral Home is serving the family.
