Sandra "Sandy" Cooper

January 26, 1946 - August 25, 2025

Sandra "Sandy" Kae Cooper, of Sioux City, died after a brief illness Monday August 25, 2025, at the age of 79.

Born in Sioux City, Iowa, January 26, 1946, she was the daughter of Martin and Elizabeth LaRue.

Sandy grew up in Sioux City, graduating from Central High School in 1964. She worked many years for Sioux City Public Schools as a lunch lady at Emerson Elementary. She was a past Worthy Matron in the Rose Croix Eastern Star Chapter and an active member of Whitfield United Methodist Church. She enjoyed feeding deer, Nascar races, and helping others in her church community.

Sandy was the loving wife of Dennis Cooper and the loving mother of Doug Young and his wife, Tina of Sioux City, Iowa, Steve Young of Sioux City, Iowa, and Michelle Churchill and her husband, Keith of Severn, Md. and step-mother of Mark Cooper and his wife, Susan of Norfolk, Neb. and Mike Cooper and his wife, Laurie of Primghar, Iowa. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tenille, Dustin (Clinton), David (Marisa), Thomas (Katlyn), Karena (Devon), Kayla, Tyler (Rachel), Levi (Carrie), Brady, Sarah, Liz (Brandon), Staci (Turner), Nic (Nicole), Stefan, and Erin (Matt) and many great-grandchildren.

Memorial Service will be held at Whitfield United Methodist Church, 1319 W. 5th Street, Sioux City, Iowa 51103 on Saturday August 30, 2025 at 11 a.m. Visitation for family and friends will be held at 10 a.m. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting with arrangements.

Special thank you to Deb Fegenbush and Katlyn Knakmuhs and St. Croix Hospice for the extraordinary care they provided during this unfortunate time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Whitfield United Methodist Church.
