Sandra Lee “Sandy” Shy (nee Mertz), of Saint Charles, MO, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the age of 85. Beloved wife of James Bernell Shy; cherished daughter of the late Roy Mertz and Octavia “Billie” Mieger; devoted mother of Sharon (Larry) Hanawalt and the late Susan “Sue” Shy; loving grandmother of William “Bill” (Tara) Cantwell; and great-grandmother to Mackenzie Cantwell, Hunter Cantwell and Brooklyn Cantwell; dear sister of the late Roy Mertz and the late Norman Mertz.
Sandy was married to Jim for 65 wonderful years of marriage, their anniversary was March 15th, 1958. Jim and Sandy met at a drive-in and felt they were soulmates. She enjoyed knitting, crafting and assisting with the High School Band. Sandy loved fishing with her family, and her great-grandchildren were her everything. Sandy was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Memorials may be made in Sandy's name to St. Jude Research Hospital.
