Sandra Glee (Hoffman) Smith, 82, of Springfield, MO passed away on May 19, 2024, at her home. She was the widow of Arnold "Rusty" Richard Smith. They shared 32 years of marriage together.
Sandra "Sandy" was born on August 20, 1941, in Audubon, Iowa and was the daughter of Rollie and Laveta Helen (Scheef) Hoffman of Atlantic, Iowa. Sandy grew up in Atlantic, IA and graduated from Atlantic High School. She later moved to Albuquerque, NM and was employed with the Social Security Administration as the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Personnel for 17 years.
While living in Albuquerque, Sandy met Rusty through mutual friends and the two were married on February 14th, 1987. Shortly after the wedding, they moved to Warsaw, MO in 1988 where they built a beautiful life together.
Sandy was a member of Warsaw Christian Church. She was a woman of faith and always enjoyed sharing her faith with others. Sandy was a kind and loving sister, mother, wife, grandmother, and friend. In her earlier years, she enjoyed listening to country and gospel music, exploring the outdoors, camping and fishing. In her later years, she loved visiting with family and neighbors.
Sandy lived in Warsaw, MO for 27 years and moved to Springfield, MO in 2015 to be closer to her children.
She is survived by her three daughters, Susan Johnston (Fowler Johnston), Jodie Wersinger (Jon Wersinger), Julie Wood, step daughter, Amy Foley (Clint Foley), and her two sons, Judd Knight (Jeanie Knight) and Kevin Dorsey. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren, Kristin Knight, Miles Knight, Nicholas Knight, Breanne Smith Pedroza, Tommy Jon Dorsey, Tara Dorsey, Jordan Wersinger, Jadyn Wersinger, Ryan Wood, Cooper Wood, step grandson Jake Simonson, and step grandson Colby Simonson along with her brother-in-law, Brooke Tanner, and nephews, Todd Tanner (Michelle Tanner), Chris Sortedahl, and Clint Sortedahl.
Sandy was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold "Rusty" Richard Smith, parents Rollie and Laveta Helen Hoffman, brother Lance Sortedahl, sister Lana Tanner, aunt Glee Wildman, uncle Gail Scheef and nephew Scott Tanner.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 9:00 am at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery located at 5201 S. Southwood Rd, Springfield, MO. The memorial service will follow at 10:00 am at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home Chapel located at 1947 E. Seminole, Springfield, MO.
