Sandra Lynn Summers
November 11, 1944 — December 6, 2025
Sandra “Sandy” Lynn Summers, 81, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025. Born in Nashville on November 11, 1944, Sandy was one of three children and grew up surrounded by the warmth and closeness of her family
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest D. and Oma S Summers, as well as her cherished niece, Cheryl Summers Seiner. She is survived by her brother, Royce Summers (Judy); her sister, Debbie Summers -Kirk (John); her nieces Laura Summers & Lesie Summers-Niewiara (Marcin) and nephew Scott Summers (Allison).
Sandy lived a rich and full life. She was a cheerleader in her freshman year and her junior year she was Junior Class Homecoming attendant at Cohn High. She later continued her education at Nashville Business College. Over the years, she built an impressive and varied career—working for a gynecologist, serving as Administrative Assistant to the Personnel Director at the former St. Thomas Hospital, working as a Legal Secretary for the Law Firm of Neal and Harwell, and serving as Administrative Assistant to Dr. Nicks, the Chancellor of the Board of Regents for the state of TN. One of her proudest achievements was serving as Director of Nashville Century III, where she orchestrated the city’s celebration marking the beginning of its third century.
In time, Sandy discovered the work that truly captured her heart: caring for animals. She served as office manager at Noah's Friends Veterinary Clinic, worked as an office manager at Robin’s Nest and finally found her greatest joy working alongside Dr. Tate at Cannon County Animal Clinic. Her love of animals was legendary --- extending not only to dogs but to any creature with fur, feathers, or scales.
Sandy embraced life with a spirit of adventure. She loved traveling to the beach, especially to her favorite place, St. George Island. She delighted in taking her dogs along and inviting friends to share in the sun and sand. Her annual pool parties, filled with fun, games, and her trademark hospitality, were highlights of every summer. She never let anyone forget to bring a swimsuit when they came to visit.
A woman of remarkable talents, Sandy could cook, knit, and crochet with ease. She was equally skilled with tools, especially her miter saw—installing much of the baseboard and crown molding in her own home—and was known as a gourmet cook who could mix any cocktail imaginable. Her creativity, capability, and warmth touched everyone who knew her.
Pallbearers: Scott Summers, Paul Helton, Gayle Tate, Riicky Gipson, John Kirk and James Garland
Honorary Pallbearers: Jimmy Summers, Tom Brown and Doug Bell
