It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sandra Vela, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, who left this world on December 16, 2024, at the age of 62. Born on August 21, 1962, in Eastland, Texas, Sandra lived the entirety of her life in the town she cherished, where she poured her compassion into both her personal relationships and her career in healthcare.
Sandra's dedication to others was evident in her work as a Certified Nursing Assistant, where she served with grace and kindness at Northview Development Center for 13 years, as well as Eastland Memorial Hospital and Girling Health Center. Her unwavering spirit and nurturing heart touched the lives of countless patients and their families, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know her.
She enjoyed crocheting, watching true crime TV shows and loved watching Yellowstone.
Sandra is survived by her devoted husband, Ruben Vela, and her loving children, Kayla Vela Williams and Robert Rodriguez. She was also a treasured grandmother to Aaden McNeal and Sophia Williams, who brought immense joy to her life. Sandra is mourned by her sisters, Norma Ramirez and Sonia Robinson, with whom she shared countless memories and a bond that transcended time.
A rosary will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19th at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory, share stories, and embrace the warmth that she brought into their lives. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20th at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Andres Rodriguez and Stella Castañeda Rodriguez, and by her sister, Nora Benavides.
To honor Sandra, in lieu of wearing black, the family encourages everyone to wear their favorite color.
