Sandra Ann Rose Vickers, of Odessa peacefully went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. She was 76 years old. She is preceded in death by her parents, O.C. and Rita Smith of Alpine, Texas and her in-laws, Hurley & Rosa Faye Vickers of Odessa.
She is survived by her loving husband of over 50 years, Gary Vickers of Odessa and her devoted loving family including: Son Kyle Vickers and wife Amy of Ira, daughter Vanessa Vickers Griffin and husband Lindsey of Monahans. She was a cherished Nana to Karsyn Griffin, Presley Griffin and Konner Vickers. Sandra is also survived by her sister Sharon Burton and husband Frank of Richmond, Tx, numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Her impact on the lives of those around her will be remembered and cherished.
Sandra graduated from Alpine High School in 1965 and went on to achieve academic excellence, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Sul Ross State University, with a master’s degree in English. During her time at Sul Ross she worked in the English Department as a Teaching Assistant, leaving a lasting impact on her colleagues and students.
Sandra dedicated 20 successful years to teaching English, making a significant difference in the lives of her students in McCamey, Texas. Her passion for literature and language inspired those around her, and her legacy as an educator will be remembered fondly. In addition to her professional accomplishments, she thoroughly enjoyed solving crypto-grams, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and immersing herself in the world of books.
Her love for learning and intellectual pursuits was evident in all aspects of her life. Her warmth, kindness and great sense of humor will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024, 11:00 to 12:30 at
Shaffer Nichols Funeral Home and Chapel in McCamey, Texas.
Graveside services to follow at 1:00 pm at Resthaven Cemetery in McCamey, Texas.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests contribution be made to Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice.
