Sandra Wanner Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 9, 2026.
Sandra Jean (Barke) Wanner, 84, of Oneida, WI. peacefully passed and was called to her heavenly home the morning of February 25, 2026. She was born on April 12, 1941, in Maple Valley, WI, to the late Adolph and Gladys (Wilson) Barke Johnson.

In the fall of 1956, she met the love of her life Robert J. Wanner and on May 2, 1959 Sandra and Robert were united in marriage at Tabor Lutheran Church, Mountain WI. They remained a loving couple and constant companions for almost 67 years. Sandra devoted her life to her family and home. Those close to her would comment, "You'd never find a dust bunny under her couch because of her love of rearranging furniture so often."

A proud mother of three, Sandra cherished her role as a homemaker, finding satisfaction in caring for her family. Sandra found joy in decorating her home with a variety of floral arrangements that she would create, both with real and artificial. Sandra enjoyed trips to the Green Bay Botanical Gardens with her family to view all of the flower gardens. Her family shares in the fond memories of days of crafting that they would do together, whether it was making yarn pompoms to paper mache eggs. Trips to Door County to pick cherries with her family earned Sandra the loving nickname of Grandma Cherry. She delighted in shopping trips that brought her simple happiness of browsing the aisles and finding something to decorate her home or a new outfit. Sandra loved drinking coffee throughout the day and it had to be hot. Dinner memories also include one of her many casseroles. In her earlier days she enjoyed a good game of Scrabble, Skipbo, and 500 Rummy with her family or neighbors. In her later years she enjoyed watching a good western from the comfort of her chair.

Sandra, along with her husband Robert both had a love of animals and were often the recipients of rescued animals that needed loving homes. She also enjoyed the wildlife in their backyard, especially caring for the hummingbirds.

For many years during their retirement, Robert and Sandra traveled together, along with their son Robert Jr. (Bobby) selling wooden craft items at local craft and tractor shows. The grandchildren share fond memories of joining them on these special trips.

More than anything, Sandra loved her family. She was proud of her children and grandchildren and cherished times spent together, whether it be a holiday, visit, or a phone call.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert J.; her children, Janet (Paul) Burns, Robert M. Wanner, Heather (Eric) Cloutier; grandchildren, Joshua (Emily) Lewis, Tadd Lewis, Drew (Ashley) Lewis, Blair Lewis and fiancé Sam Veytsman, Brooklen Cloutier and Brady Cloutier, brother, Michael (Garnet) Barke; nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Thomas Barke and sister, Sally Hansen.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Bellin Health, ADRC, Community Care, Helping Hands and Unity Hospice for the compassionate and dignified care provided to Sandra during her final days. The kindness, patience, and comfort shown by the staff brought peace not only to Sandra, but to the family as well.
