Sandra J. Weitz, age 80, of Oshkosh, passed away on Monday April 8, 2024 at Bethel Home. She was born on June 22, 1943 in Oshkosh a daughter of Kenneth and Lucille Troiber Gehrke.
Sandy was the owner of Sandarella’s Bridal Consignment Shop on Main Street in Oshkosh for 26, years. The store was featured on ‘Round the Corner with John McGivern’ on PBS. Sandarellas was one of the first stores in the valley to provide elegant bridal gowns, tuxedos and accessories that were affordable in a welcoming, friendly,and beautiful setting. She loved being her own boss. Previously she had worked at a bank in Oshkosh and Milwaukee and Winnebago Mental Health Institute as a night switchboard operator, where she became a master scrabble player. Sandy had many hobbies including interior design, gardening, reading, avid historian and watcher of old movies, a great debater on all subjects, Pollyanna and was the 2024 egg pecking champion at Easter. She loved this country and greatly enjoyed talking politics. She considered Benjamin Franklin her idol and she had a lifelong crush on James Dean. Her sense of humor and spunk will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter Rachael Hazen, her granddaughter Raven Meyer, her siblings Darrell (Lynn) Gehrke, Sally Lou (Gehrke) Guenther, Steven (Brenda) Gehrke, Karin Gehrke, Lynn (Wally) Messner. Numerous nieces and nephews Jeff (Trish) Gehrke, Amy (Brent) Peterson, Ken (Tracy) Gehrke, Sarah Gehrke, Matthew (Kelly) Gehrke, Drew (Jody) Messner, Lauren (Brian) Messner-Kenney, her special friend Boyd Walker and many great nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant brother Kenneth Gehrke, and one sister Christine.
Services will be held on Sunday April 14, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes-Westside. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
A memorial has been established.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Bethel Home and Hospice care for their loving care for Sandy and her endless entourage of family fans.
