Sandra “Sandy” Lee Wendland of Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. She was 84 years old. Sandra Lee Rogel was born on April 20, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Charles and Eva (McDonald) Rogel. She was a proud 1959 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. She met the love of her life, Lawrence Charles Wendland, while on a double-blind date. They began dating, fell in love, and were united in marriage on July 30, 1960, in Houghton Lake, Michigan; he survives her. The role of her lifetime, one loved above all others, was to be a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Sandy was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church on Federal. After raising her family, Sandy began working at Growing Years in Saginaw for 20 years, where she was lovingly nicknamed “Miss Sandy” by the staff and children. When she wasn’t spending time with her family, she enjoyed cooking and crocheting. Sandy held a special place in her heart for all animals, but especially for her five beloved cats and two dogs. She will forever be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, for her feisty and strong personality, for caring for those she loved dearly, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.
Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Lawrence C. Wendland of Saginaw; two sons: Randolph Wendland of Saginaw; Todd (Jill) Wendland of Saginaw; four grandchildren: Todd (Jennifer) Wendland, II, of St. Louis; Jessyca (Eric) Smith of Vassar; Alyssa Wendland of Midland; Olivia (Brett) Wendland of Bay City; eight great-grandchildren: Abgail, Carter, Averee, Jaidyn, Brooklyn, Braylee, Brielle, and Joliette; a brother, Frederick (Christine) Rogel of Oscoda; sisters- and brothers-in-law: Nancy (Arthur) Podgurski of Saginaw; Ada (Ronald) Gilginas of Freeland.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Wendland; a brother, Charles Rogel; and her parents Charles and Eva Rogel.
