Sandra Axness, 83, of Des Moines, passed away on September 28 after a two year struggle with cancer.
Sandy was born in 1940 to Alvin and Vivian in St. Paul, Minnesota. After Sandy graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1962, she went on to a 30 year teaching career and gained her masters in education in 1990 from Drake University.
In 1959, Sandy met Paul at the University of Minnesota. Sandy and Paul were married on December 28th, 1962 and had two children, Elizabeth Ann and Eric-Paul Jonathan.
Sandy retired at age 64 and spent her time serving on various boards and community service groups. Her post retirement volunteer work helped more people than even her family knows.
Sandy is survived by beloved husband Paul, daughter Beth, and son Eric-Paul [ex-wife Deanna and fiancee Sara]. Grandchildren Ingrid, Vivian, Gretchen, and Fina, along with Silas and Elin [children of Sara].
Services will be at Windsor Heights Lutheran Church on Tuesday, October 3rd at 11:00. Those who are unable to attend in person can live stream the service by clicking on Online Services at https://www.whlc.org/. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Windsor Heights Lutheran Church Music Ministry.
