Jean Marie Lebeda, 82, of Urbandale, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born on March 30, 1943 to James and Elna (Bryhl) Hazlewood in Waverly, Iowa.
Jean is survived by her husband of 63 years, Joseph R. Lebeda; children, Kari (Douglas) Lebeda Townsend, and David Lebeda; grandchildren, David Townsend, Lauren Townsend, and Michael Townsend; and sisters, Judy (Robert) Bierstedt, and Joyce (Douglas) Schuler. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Joan Swede.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, March 20, 2026 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, 8201 Hickman Rd., Urbandale, IA with a Celebration of Life to follow at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will take place at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 21, 2026 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 705 Main St, Cedar Falls with burial to follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. In memory of Jean, contributions may be made to Can Do Cancer, P.O. Box 602, Ankeny, Iowa 50021 or at candocancer.org (select donate and in memory of link). I am so very sorry about the loss of Jean. We were friends in high school even before she met Joe and I was so happy that our connection remained through my "sister friend" Kay Lebeda, when she married Joe´s brother.
Jean will be remembered as a fun loving, classy, kind and gracious woman and devoted wife and mother. I´m grateful for the great memories of my time with her. Sincere condolences to her loved ones.
