Sandy Alvin Hale, 76, of Reidsville NC, passed away December 17, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, December 22, 2023 at Wilkerson Funeral with Pastor Ted Aschenbrand officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and other times at the home.
Sandy was born in Blount County, Alabama to the late Alvin Hale & Opal Standridge. He graduated from Leeds High School in Leeds, Alabama, and after graduating, enlisted in the Air Force and served in Vietnam. After a 20 year career in the service, he retired with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant from the Air Force and worked for many more years as an electrician and in maintenance, most recently working at Wencor of Anniston. He resided in Anniston, AL for 36 years before moving to Reidsville NC.
Sandy loved his time in the Air Force, working as an aircraft mechanic. He was proudest of his service in the test program for the F15. His knowledge of all aircraft was extensive. He was a master carver, whittling models of all of the planes he worked on during his 20 year career in the Air Force, plus many more. Sandy was an electrician by trade and a carpenter for enjoyment, and enjoyed making things for people. Many of his friends and family have been blessed by his custom-made woodwork, from furniture to toolboxes.
Sandy was a faithful servant of the Lord. He trusted the Lord as his personal Savior while stationed in Germany, and was always very faithful in serving in his church, wherever he was stationed. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing for family and for church. He served as an Awana commander for years and cut out grand prix cars for many kids in Calhoun County, Alabama. He enjoyed teaching the men’s class at Saks Baptist Church, and recently led the singing at Liberty Baptist Church after moving to Reidsville NC to be near family.
To know Sandy, is to know his silly side, his love for gospel and old country music, airplanes, woodworking, and Alabama football. He had a special kind of love for his wife Candy and didn’t want to go a day without her by his side. She faithfully cared for him through many health problems. The Lord blessed them with 56 years of a sweet, loving marriage. “Pop” had a special kind of magic with his grandchildren! He just made everything fun. He had an incredible spirit, never complaining, even though he suffered a lot of health problems and dealt with a lot of pain. In 2003, he was given the amazing gift of life, when he received a kidney transplant, through the gift of an anonymous donor. The family is forever thankful for the 20 more years of life that this gave us with our “Pop.” He truly knew how to enjoy the gift of life, and always wanted others to know that true lasting joy in life only comes from knowing Jesus.
Sandy is survived by his wife of 56 years Candy Hale; daughters Catherine Elliott (Chris), Jenny Aschenbrand (Ted); grandchildren Christina Kline-Pysher (Tyler), Jake Elliot, Carrion Elliiot, Abby Aschenbrand, Jessie Aschenbrand, Nate Aschenbrand & Emma Aschenbrand; great-grandchildren Theo Kline-Pysher & Joey Kline-Pysher; siblings Freddy Hale (Alicia), Leta Dawson (Darrell) and Nathan Hale (Donna).
