Obituary published on Legacy.com by Morris Funeral Home - Hemingway on May 26, 2024.
Hemingway, SC
Sandy Joye, 79, widow of Alton M. Joye, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2024, in a Florence, SC, hospital.
Born Kwang Cha Yi in Seoul, South Korea, a daughter of the late Hyong U Yi and Pok Ye Pak, she was known to friends and family as Sandy. She met her husband, Alton Monroe Joye while he was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. They were married and she moved to the United States with Alton in 1970 settling in Hemingway, SC. Even though she did not have a formal education and was completely unfamiliar with our language and customs, she was able to establish an enriching life in the Hemingway area. With an outgoing personality, she made many lifelong friendships. Always full of energy, she loved gardening and working in her yard and spending time with her family in America which she loved dearly.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Joye (Chad) Parsons, and grandchildren, Damian and Joviana Parsons.
Funeral services will be held at 5 PM Wednesday, May 29, 2024, in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Old Johnsonville Cemetery, 846 S. Georgetown Hwy., Johnsonville, SC 29555.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel, 416 N. Main St., Hemingway, SC 29554.
The family will receive friends at other times at the home of Kathy and Chad Parsons, 6 Matthews Rd., Hemingway, SC 29554.
