Janet Stone Tanner, 81, of Johnsonville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026.

Born on April 3, 1944, in Hemingway, South Carolina, Janet was the daughter of the late Irby and Harriett Newell Stone. She grew up surrounded by a large and loving family and carried that spirit of devotion and care throughout her life.

Janet was a woman of deep faith who dedicated over 50 years to serving the Lord. As a devoted member of Johnsonville Pentecostal Holiness Church, her unwavering commitment to her faith was evident in every aspect of her life. Her church community held a special place in her heart, and she found great joy in worship and fellowship.

She shared a long and loving marriage with her husband, Kerry Tanner. Together they built a strong family foundation rooted in love and faith. Janet is lovingly remembered by her sons, Joey (Gaye Anne) Tanner and Shannon (Gina) Tanner; her grandson, Drew Tanner; and great-grandchildren Ryker Tanner and Stetson Bittle. Her nurturing spirit extended to many others as well-she was a cherished sister to Virginia (Billy Joe) Crocker, Glenda (Wayne) Ridgeway, Vickie McKenzie, Teresa (Earl) Baxley, and Buddy (Bonnie) Stone. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law Susan Stone and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Ray Stone and Jerry Stone.

In addition to her spiritual devotion and love for family, Janet found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a passion for gardening, raising chickens, and cooking-activities that reflected both her nurturing nature and strong work ethic. Her home was often filled with the comforting aromas of home-cooked meals and the warmth of shared stories around the table.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Amedisys Hospice as well as all the caregivers who assisted during this time, especially her niece, Kim Altman.

A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Johnsonville Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway will be in the Lake Chapel Cemetery, 860 Lake Chapel Rd. Johnsonville, SC 29555.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 06:00 PM to 08:00 PM at the Johnsonville Pentecostal Holiness Church 330 North Georgetown Hwy. Johnsonville, SC 29555.
