Sandy Prout Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 6, 2026.
Sandra Prout, 78, of Sterling Heights, MI, entered God's kingdom on January 2, 2026. Born on November 19, 1947, to Doris and Earnest Green, Sandy was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and had just become a great-grandmother.
Sandy met Bob in April of 1967, shortly after he was transferred to NAS Corpus Christi, Texas, as a student pilot in advanced flight training. Their courtship was brief, as they married just one week after he received his wings as a Naval Aviator in September of that year. They celebrated their marriage with a honeymoon while traveling to their first duty station in San Diego, California. One year later, she returned to Texas to deliver their first child, Christopher, while Bob concluded preparations for a deployment to Vietnam aboard the USS Hornet.
Upon returning home, they continued to reside in the San Diego area for about a year before temporarily leaving the Navy. Sandy and Bob then lived in Colorado for about six months before settling down in Sterling Heights, Michigan, where they lived for the last 55 years. In 1972, Sandy gave birth to their first daughter, Sarah. Two years later, their second daughter, Abigail, was born. In 1976, they adopted their son, David Joseph "Joe," from Korea.
Up until the 1980s, Sandy was a full-time mother and housewife. During those years, she became involved with the Utica Community School System. She started out as a lunchroom aid, then became a special education paraprofessional. Just as Bob retired from the Naval Reserve, she took on a full-time position as a secretary in the UCS maintenance department. She worked her way up to the position of the Maintenance Director's Administrative Assistant and retired in 2008.
With her retirement, they were free to travel whenever they pleased, beginning semi-annual month-long excursions to Hawaii. She loved being there, cherished her family, and enjoyed working with stained glass.
Sandra leaves behind her husband of 58 years, Bob; her children Christopher, Sarah (Sean), and Abigail; and her late son Joe (Kathy), who passed away on December 9, 2021. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Alexandria (Andrew), Emily, Ellie, and great-grandchild Sylvianna. She was predeceased by her parents Earnest and Doris, and her sister Linda.
The funeral service will be held at The Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Detroit at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 10th. Viewing will be at the Cathedral at 9:30 AM, and a luncheon in the parish hall will follow the service. All are welcome to attend.
