Sara Nan Eisner

Sara Nan Eisner passed away on April 1 at the age of 75. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Claire (Waltzer) Eisner. Sara graduated from Scranton High School and went on to study at the University of Pittsburgh where she remained after graduation to work with emotionally troubled children.
Following her father's death, Sara returned to Scranton to run the family business, Eisner and Sons, which had been an iconic fixture in northeastern Pennsylvania since the late 1800s. Sara was active in many community activities including the Architectural Heritage Association, Friendship House, Community Concerts, United Way and numerous Jewish organizations. Additionally, Sara was a pioneer in the revitalization of Penn Avenue in downtown Scranton when she and her business partners renovated a building there into offices and living space over 35 years ago.
Sara was a beloved aunt and friend and was known by many for her great sense of humor. She was a fantastic family historian who took great pride in her family's legacy and made it her mission to share stories about previous generations with her nieces.
Another great love of her life and accomplishment was the game of bridge. Sara was a nationally ranked life master bridge player and relished the game until her death.
Sara was preceded in death by her brother, Louis Eisner, M.D.
She is survived by nieces Erika Eisner, Adrienne Eisner, J Jessica (Eisner) Harker and Kate Melton, their families, and numerous cousins.
Graveside services were conducted by Rabbi Mordechai Fine on April 2 at the Dalton Jewish Cemetery.
In Sara's memory, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
