Sara Elizabeth (Kukla) (Prellwitz) Freund, age 81, passed away Friday, March 7, 2025, at St. Francis Terrace in Fond du Lac, WI. Sara was born in South Milwaukee, WI, on June 13, 1943, to Walter and Florence (Keelan) Kukla. She attended St. Mary’s Academy in Milwaukee and then St. Agnes School of Nursing in Fond du Lac, graduating in 1964. Sara was a registered nurse (RN) for 20 years at St. Agnes Hospital and for 5 years at the Fond du Lac Regional Clinic, all the while raising her 5 children.
Sara had many interests which included scrapbooking, card making, genealogy, reading, drawing, listening to music (the Beatles and many others), writing short stories and poems, sewing, embroidery, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was published in the Milwaukee Journal, Catholic Digest, South Milwaukee Voice, and a few other small publications. She volunteered at the Samaritan Free Health Clinic and her daughter-in-law’s first grade classroom at Evan’s school. In her younger years, she water-skied whenever she could.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard (Dick) Freund, older sister Mary Anita (Kukla) & Ted Spilger, and younger sister Rosemary (Kukla), and sisters-in-law Kathie (Mark) Kukla, and Nancy (Mike) Kukla.
Sara will be greatly missed by friends and family. She is survived by her sister, Sr. Barbara Kukla of Racine, WI, brother, Michael Kukla of Columbus, OH, and brother, Mark Kukla of Sun City, AZ. She is survived by her children Pam Prellwitz of Seattle, WA, Paul Prellwitz (Deb) of Fond du Lac, Julie Mich (Bill) of Fond du Lac, Jeff Prellwitz (Julie) of Dublin, CA, and Greg Prellwitz (Cassie) of Weyauwega, WI, and Dick's children Steve Freund (Linda) of Fond du Lac, and Doug Freund (Shay) of Fond du Lac. She is also survived further by many grandchildren: Hannah Prellwitz, Megan Prellwitz, Alyssa Biggs, McKayla Niederdorfer, Sean Niederdorfer, Tyler Prellwitz, Deven Prellwitz, Amy (Freund) Kaiser, Chris Freund, and Carly Freund and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Sara will be held from 3:00 PM – 5:30 PM, Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Vincent DePaul's.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the people at St. Francis Terrace as well as SSM Health at Home Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Sara and her family.
