Sara Catherine Gardner Gaulden, age 99, passed away on December 3, 2025. She was born in York, SC on August 22, 1926, to Charlie C. and Lula Hudspeth Gardner. Mrs. Gaulden was married to Thomas W. Gaulden for 66 years until his death in May 2010.
Sara was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed participating in many activities. She also enjoyed square dancing, needlework, and especially spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by three daughters Linda Peterson (Whit) of Mocksville, NC, Darlene Sovich of Spartanburg, SC, and Susan Collins (Steve) of Woodruff, SC; six grandchildren, Bryan and Jonathan Sovich, Tom Peterson (Stacy), Kristi Arnold (Scott), Brandon Collins and Blake Collins (Emily); eight greatgrandchildren, Ethan, Avery, and Gavin Peterson, Sam and Drew Arnold, and Bryce, Madison and Holly Collins; and a brother, John D. Gardner of Leslie, SC.
In addition to her husband, Thomas W. Gaulden, she is predeceased by her brother C. Hunter Gardner.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at 2 PM in Nazareth Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 680 Nazareth Church Road, Moore, SC with the Reverend Andrew Wolfe officiating.
The family wishes to thank the staff at White Oak North Grove and the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home for their car and concern. A special thanks to longtime friend and caregiver, Della Jones, for her patience and unwavering love and care of Ms. Sara.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Sara’s memory to St. James United Methodist Church, 213 Lanford Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301 or to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box. 3000 Boone, NC, 28607, or to a charity of one’s choice.
