Sara Ann Brown Harper, 74, peacefully transitioned into her eternal home on Monday, January 26, 2026, at the home of her daughter in
Abbeville, SC surrounded by her family. She was born in
Abbeville, South Carolina on March 29, 1951, to Ernest and Ida Mae Murray Brown. She was the youngest of the siblings.
Sara grew up in
Calhoun Falls, SC and was educated within the public school system of the Abbeville County School District. At an early age, her employment career began. She was a very hard worker, and she was known to be a dependable employee. She worked many years at the Textile Mill in
Calhoun Falls, SC, Seaboard Farms in
Elberton, GA, South Caolina Department of Employment and Workforce in
Abbeville, SC and finally having her own Daycare Business in her home until her retirement. She cared for over ten children daily. She truly loved all these kids and their families. The love was a shared feeling for all the kids and all parents. Sara was truly a people person and never met a stranger. She was loved by many co-workers on and off the job and in her community.
Sara was a devoted wife to James Ellis Harper for 53 years until his death on May 16, 2025. He was truly the love of her life. Together they raised, adored and spoiled one daughter, Karen Denise Brown Peterson. She lived in her home in Calhoun Falls until her illness and then moved with her daughter and her son-in-law, Elihu, in
Abbeville, SC during the last seven months of her life. At a very young age, she was taught the word of God by her parents, and she attended Glovers AME Church in Calhoun Falls. SC. In the later years, she became a baptized member of the Jehovah's Witnesses. She attended and served in the Kingdom Hall in
Abbeville, SC for over 40 years. She was a very faithful and dedicated member.
Sara enjoyed spending time with her family, meeting new people, dancing, eating lots of food, playing cards and lots of games with her grandchildren, watching movies, traveling, learning new and wonderful things. She loved life and her smile was a bright shining light.
She is preceded in death by her parents: husband, James: Two (2) brothers; Ernest Brown, Jr. and John Brown. Three (3) Sisters; Lillie Wilson, Christine Brown and Helen Bryant. One (1) Brother-in-Law; James Tillman, Two (2): Sisters-In-Laws: Loree Allen and Annie Ruth Brown.
Sara is survived by her devoted and loving daughter, Karen Denise Brown Peterson and her husband, Elihu Peterson, Jr. of
Abbeville, SC. Six (6) Grandchildren, Elihu (Tenisha) Peterson, of Greenwood, SC; Christopher Brown of Anderson, SC, Desmond Peterson of Greenville, SC: Pamela Peterson of
Abbeville, SC; Daren (Kayla) Hurley of Anderson, SC; DeAndre` Hurley of Newark, New Jersey, One (1) Sister; Cora Bell Tillman of
Calhoun Falls, SC; Two (2) Brothers: Larry Allen of Fayetteville, Ga; William Davis of Calhoun Falls; One (1)
Brother-In-Law; Frank Wilson of
Abbeville, SC; One (1) Aunt; Liddell Murray of Calhoun Falls, Fourteen (14) Great-Grandchildren and two (2) Great-Great Grandchildren; A Host of Nieces, Nephews and Cousins who will all miss her dearly and cherish the beautiful memories forever.
