Sara McDavid Obituary

McDAVID (McRae), Sara June

Sara June McRae McDavid died on November 15, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. The only child of June Threadgill McRae and William Harvey McRae, she was born December 21, 1945, in Atlanta. She married the love of her life, Michael McDavid of Greenville, SC, in 1971, and they enjoyed 54 years together, sharing common interests in travel, entertaining, theater, antiques and libraries.

Sara June grew up in Atlanta and graduated from North Fulton High School. She earned her B.A. degree from Mercer University where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta. Afterwards she received her M.L.S. degree from Emory University and began a lifelong career in libraries and research. Sara June spent most of her career in specialized business libraries but was an active supporter of libraries in general. She was the library director at Fernbank Science Center, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and the International Association for Financial Planning.

In later years she was director of research for several consulting firms: Korn Ferry International and LAI International. She retired from a senior research role at the Boston Consulting Group. During her career Sara June served in various offices of the Special Libraries Association, was Vice Chairman of SOLINET and Vice President of the Georgia Library Association. She was also editor of the Library Management Quarterly and other professional publications.

Sara June was devoted to animals and volunteered with the Atlanta Humane Society Auxiliary, serving as president and board member. In retirement she became active in the Atlanta Woman's Club and served on its Executive Board. She was also a Trustee of the Wimbish House and president of the Northside Library Association.

She is survived by her loving husband, Michael McDavid; her dog, Asta; and a host of beloved cousins and treasured friends.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. To honor her memory consider a donation to Furkids, the Atlanta Humane Society, the Mercer University Library or a worthy organization of your choice.

Mike, I am so sorry about your loss. I see Sara is to be buried at the McDavid cemetery on Hwy 25 near the McDavud homeplace. I am glad to see that it has been mowed and I would like to know if you have plans for its continued upkeep. I help with the upkeep of several cemeteries including the Campbell cemetery and Rose Hill in Piedmont. I'd love to talk to you about it. [email protected]
