Sara Frances Owens, a remarkable and elegant woman of unwavering commitment and boundless determination, was born to beloved parents William Henry and Nellie (Garrett) Donald in Ware Place, South Carolina, on May 7, 1934. As the eldest of nine siblings, Sara naturally assumed the role of a caring big sister, a true family leader.
On November 12, 2023, Sara peacefully departed this life to her Heavenly Reward, surrounded by her loving family in her Chicago home. Her legacy lives on through those who hold her dear. She is survived by her two daughters, Linda Davison, and Tracy (T.) Alexis Owens in Chicago, Illinois; her two sisters, Dorothy A. Burks, and Theresa Donald in Greenville, S.C; and her two brothers, Charles C. Donald in Aurora, Oregon, and Floyd P. Donald in Greenville, South Carolina. She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared with her.
Sara is preceded in death by her parents, William and Nellie Donald of South Carolina, her sisters Elizabeth Davis and Nellie V. Vaughn of Greenville, South Carolina, and brothers William Henry Jr. Donald, and Jimmy L. Donald.
Sara's life will be celebrated with her family, friends, and loved ones at Third Baptist Church of Chicago. Her remains will be flown from Chicago, Illinois to her hometown of Greenville, South Carolina for a memorial service, Saturday, November 25, 2023, 11:00am at Watkins, Garrett and Woods Mortuary with intimate burial in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
