Sara Piper Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rose Funeral & Cremation - Mann on Jan. 23, 2026.
Sara Jane Piper (Hahn), age 78, of Knoxville, passed away on January 16, 2026. Sally (as friends called her) was born in Bradford, Pennsylvania on September 11, 1947, the middle child of three. She graduated from Thiel College with a Bachelor of Arts in medical technology and later earned a Master of Science at the University of Tennessee. She devoted 35 years of her professional life working for Fort Sanders and Park West Medical Centers, as well as teaching biology at Pellissippi State.

Outside of her career, Sally was an extremely skilled potter and found joy in creating with her hands. She loved gardening, spending time outdoors, and birdwatching. Animals held a special place in her heart, and she shared her life with several beloved dogs over the years. Above all, Sally deeply loved her grandchildren and took care to stay connected with them. She always remembered birthdays, holidays, and milestones by sending thoughtful cards and gifts. Her quiet strength, determination, and love for cultural exploration inspired those who knew her well.

She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Miller Hahn (Pete), her mother, Carol Louise Hahn (Peggy), and her brother Raymond James Hahn (Jim).

She is survived by her loyal dog, Fiona, her brother, Charles Hahn, her two sons, Christopher and Cameron, Daughters-in-law, Jennifer and Kelly, her five cherished grandchildren, Alexandria, Eli, Caleb, Lincoln, and Charlotte.

A reception for family and friends will be held at Rose Funeral & Cremation – Mann 6200 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN from 1:00 to 3:00pm on Saturday, January 31st.
