Sarah Frances Christenson

Sarah Frances Christenson, 81 of Charleston returned to God's loving arms on Monday February 16, 2015 at CAMC Memorial Hospital after a courageous 24 year battle with breast cancer. Sarah attended St. Paul United Methodist Church, South Charleston. She was a 50 year member and Past Worthy Matron of Salina Chapter No. 81 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Beni Kedem Shrine Widows Club. She loved her flower gardens, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; James Owen Young and Freda Beatrice Dupler Young; husband of 57 years, John Calvin Christenson; daughter-in-law, Nancy Rae Spradling Christenson. Sarah is survived by her daughter, Karen Christenson Moore (Bob) of Raleigh, NC; sons, George Owen Christenson of Aiken, SC and John Michael (Mike) Christenson (Carol) of Charleston; grandchildren, Meredith Blair Moore, R. Zachary Moore (Emma), Lee Michael Christenson, Kara Elizabeth Griffin (Travis), John Michael Christenson II, Hunter Lee Christenson, Carley Renee Christenson; great grandson, Owen Michael Griffin; brother, James Owen Young (Ellen) of Charleston; sister, Margaret Ann Blankenship of Orlando, FL. Sarah is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family that loved her deeply. The family would like to give a special thanks to the loving neighbors and friends for their continued care and support. They would also like to thank Dr. James Frame and the staff of David Lee Cancer Center for their wonderful care throughout this battle. Sarah touched the lives of many through her hospitality and generosity. Her home was always open to everyone. Anyone who ever met her loved her. A service to honor the life of Sarah Frances Christenson will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday February 21, 2015 at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston with Rev. Bernard Toppings officiating. Entombment will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Family and friends may visit from 6 to 8 PM Friday February 20, 2015 at Snodgrass Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Beni Kedem Shrine Transportation Fund, 100 Quarrier St. Charleston, WV 25301.
