Miss Sarah Mae McLevish, 24, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly, early morning Wednesday, October 19, 2022 with her mom, Bobbi, by her side. Sarah was a survivor of a non-fatal drowning on June 6, 2014. She valiantly and bravely overcame obstacles thrown her way for the past near 9 years.
Sarah came quickly into this wild world full of sass on February 8, 1998 in Spirit Lake, Iowa, welcomed by her mom, Bobbi, dad, Daniel McLevish, and sister/best friend, Kaitlin Elise.
Sarah was a bright, shining, happy girl with a smile that could light anyone's day and eyes that no one could forget. She had a fervent love of creatures of all kinds from a very young age (hence, her nickname "Bug"). She loved her sister and they were often inseparable (even though there were the occasional knockdown, drag out fights and arguments before they were even out of bed). She loved her family and her friends with her entire being. She was a selfless young lady and would do anything for the ones she loved. Sarah was a sun girl, one of her favorite places to be was outside enjoying nature, whether it was fishing, playing with the dogs, swimming in the pond, helping work around the property, or playing in the snow, whatever it was, Sarah was down for it. She was a fearless daredevil who would try pretty much anything. Sarah shared a love of reading with her mom and they often could be found swapping books they had each finished. She was also a lover of all kinds of music and was a talented artist.
Sarah enjoyed school and for a time played basketball, volleyball, and did track. Her sophomore year, Sarah helped with the essential skills class and absolutely loved it. She returned to school shortly after returning home from her hospital stay and herself was in the essential skills class (with the classmates she had helped being her biggest support system). She received her certificate of completion in 2017 from Shelbyville High School.
Sarah was preceded in death by a sister, JoLynn Sanow, in infancy; a half-brother, Christopher McLevish, in infancy; her grandparents, grandma Peg Sanow, Papa Larry Sanow, and grandpa Mike Welp; a cousin, Travis James Weiler; her great-grandparents, George and Phyllis Nilles, Lester and Clover Sanow, and grandfather Fred McLevish.
Sarah is survived by her mother, BobbiJo Sanow; sister, Kaitlin McLevish and new niece, Willow Mae; step-father, George Hubbard; uncle, Don (Carla) Sanow; aunt, Robin (Corey) Weiler; cousins, Taylor Weiler, Alexandra Rosacker, and Travis Weiler; her father, Daniel McLevish; aunt, Tammy McLevish; grandmother, Diane Hohbach. Sarah was our sunshine and she will be remembered, cherished, honored, and missed every single day until we see her smile again.
