Sarah Jane Wells, age 95, of Nixa, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023. She was born October 30, 1927, in Springfield, the daughter of Robert Craig Fenimore and Tresse (Shull) Fenimore.
Sarah was a caregiver and made her home available for many. She loved fishing and lake time, and garage sales, as she operated three flea market booths (she loved to hunt for the good stuff). Working in the garden and family dinners with lots of food were always important to her. Her fried chicken was famous for the crust she could get to stick on the chicken.
Sarah was preceded in death by: her husband of 49 years, Leonard Wells; parents, Robert and Tresse Fenimore; brothers, Leonard Fenimore, Bill Fenimore, and Boyd Fenimore; sisters, Molly Fenimore and Bobbi Fenimore; step-sons, Elbert Wells, Joe Wells, and Vernie Wells.
Survivors include: Her sons, Dennis Wells and wife Sandy of Nixa, and Gary Wells and wife Peggy of Clever; grandchildren, Denny Wells and wife Donna of Marionville, Donnie Wells and wife Vanessa of Nixa, Jimmy Wells of Clever, and Nick McDowell; great grandchildren, Laci Wells Stonebraker and husband William, Grant Wells, Jordan Wells, Brenna Wells, and Waylon Wells; great-great-grandchildren, Avrianna Vermillion, Kaydin Vermillion, William Stonebraker III, Isabella McDowell, Nicholas McDowell, III; step grandchildren, Roni, Stacy, Chris, Clayton, Steve, Jodi, Paul, Michael, David and James.
There are many other cousins, extended family who always loved Grandma Wells and longtime friends who have been very important in her life.
A funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 30, 2023 at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with Chaplain Joe Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Danforth Cemetery, Strafford. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa.
