Sarah Elizabeth Cook Rickman DeShazo Wright, who was called Beth was born on August 20,1931 in Shuqualak, MS to Lewis J Cook, Sr. and Effie Louise McReynolds Cook.
Beth was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at the age of 92 years old. Beth spent her youth and young adult years in Millport, AL where she married Talmadge Copeland Rickman also of Millport, Al. Beth and Talmadge moved to Birmingham, Al in 1954 where they lived out the
remainder of their married life. Beth worked and retired from Butler Manufacturing as a purchasing clerk.
Beth and Talmadge raised three daughters, Rachel, Sara and Cathy. Beth is survived by her daughters; Rachel Snow (Larry), Sara Caudle (Don), Cathy Parkin, grandchildren, Christy Bosworth (Butch), Kevin Snow, Bradley Hall (Jenn), Wendi Wilson (Al); great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Beth was preceded in death by her husbands; Talmadge Copeland Rickman, George DeShazo and Andrew Wright; father Lewis J. Cook Sr and mother Effie Louise McReynolds Cook; brothers Lewis J. Cook Jr. (Virginia), John Robert "Bobby" Cook (Donna); son in law Pat Parkin, and grandson Brandon Hall.
Beth's love of music included southern gospel quartet music, singing her whole life in the church choir with her beautiful warm alto voice, serving 50 years in Eastern Star in the local chapter which she held the position as Worthy Matron and state officer.
Her devotion to the Methodist church was exemplary throughout her life as a devout Christian working in various committees and ministries with a servant's heart.
Beth enjoyed her years of travel with the Airstream Club and her special Mother/Daughter trips taken each year with Rachel, Sara and Cathy during the week of Mother's Day filled with laughter, and more fun than can be imagined, singing favorite quartet songs harmonizing along the way until their voices were hoarse when arriving at their destination. Beth and her girls loved singing together in church also.
She showed commitment and support to her family each day. She always ended a phone call or gathering with an "I Love You" for her family. She was our treasure and will always be our matriarch who lived her life as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother lovingly known with her endearing name as Nanny. Nanny was adored by all who loved her whether related or not.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 which will be Beth's 93rd birthday at Crestview Memorial Funeral Home in Adamsville, AL. Visitation with friends will be at 11:00 am and a celebration of life at 12:00 pm with internment following at Crestview Cemetery.
