Satwinder Sidhu Obituary

Satwinder "Goody" K. Sidhu was born in Tapa, Punjab, India, on September 20, 1944, to Bhagwan S. Matharu and Gurdial K. Matharu. The following year, the three moved to Karol Bagh, Delhi, India, where Satwinder spent her childhood. The eldest sibling, Satwinder helped raise her brothers and sisters, Darshan, Jaswinder, Jasbir, and Jaswant. Satwinder attended Khalsa School and earned her bachelor's degree from Khalsa College. She took a particular interest in history and mathematics.
In 1964, Satwinder married Dr. Jaswinder S. Sidhu, and they had their first child, Patwinder, in Chandigarh, India. The family navigated a new world, living in Montreal, New York, Richmond, and Upper Marlboro before settling in Potomac. In 1978, Satwinder's second son, Dawinder, was born in Maryland.
Together, Dr. and Mrs. Sidhu formed a perfect union based on practical and spiritual values, including hard work, living truthfully, and serving all. As with her husband, Satwinder helped build institutions and community. She was a founding member of a women's prayer group at the Guru Nanak Foundation of America (GNFA); she coordinated several social, spiritual, and singing groups; and after the death of her husband she established a support group for widows.
Satwinder lived a life of pure selflessness. She gave every piece of her soul to help others, sacrificing for her family, friends, and strangers. In countless ways, she uplifted and assisted others, including by driving the elderly to GNFA, caring for other children as her own, and cooking for sick friends. Her compassion and kindness was matched only by her humility and happiness in being in a position to serve others. If anyone was an example of God and His virtues, it was Satwinder. For her family and others, she was a moral compass, guiding star, and constant source of wisdom, strength, and comfort.
Satwinder passed away peacefully in her home on October 6, 2024. Following a private funeral, prayer services were held at GNFA. The family respectfully requests privacy and asks well-wishers to visit GNFA or a spiritual center of their choice.
She is survived by her two sons and her grandchildren, Justin and Sasha. Satwinder sponsored three of her siblings for citizenship. Her family, their roots, and her example of a virtuous, selfless life will be her enduring and eternal legacy.

I wish she didn´t die. I miss calling her just to say hi. She was always praying-I wondered how she did it nearly every time I called she had just prayed or was about to. She would encourage me to pray not knowing I already did

Wish I could call her but no one picks up at her home. God bless her

It´s hard to believe it´s been a fortnight since she´s been gone. God bless her soul

One of my last conversations with her I told her how lucky she is to have a good brother (my father is her brother). No matter the distance or time she would always see or call her brother and vice versa.

A classic memory of her is in her kitchen. She was the lady of her house and an exceptional host to guests always offering food and drink. In a day and age where politeness is eschewed she always chose to be polite. Unlike even other familial settings, I had never left her house thirsty or hungry.

It´s amazing how you can look like someone yet be so different. She would tell me a lot I look like her (and truthfully, everyone said it even my mother), but her life was so magical and devoutly religious. I exemplified the struggle of life in America and she lived the life of an immigrant accomplishing the American dream. I always told her she was lucky. Her prayers were nearly always answered by God.

She never forgot a birthday my whole life. Wishing her sons a happy birthday and happy belated. Their mom was the kindest to remember us with no mothers to wish us

She was extremely sophisticated-from Punjab to Potomac she entered the Upper Echelon of society but never forgot us little people in her family and made us feel so important. God bless her life isn´t the same without her it never will be

She was warm like sunshine and roses in the summer. She was an exquisite cook, particularly in North Indian/Punjabi food. Both her and her husband, Dr. Jaswinder Sidhu were godsends and did so much charity work, or seva-and they did so from the goodness of their hearts not for any recognition. May God give salvation to all those left behind and may God bless her and her husband

Still can´t believe she is gone. She was too beautiful for this world and too humble to acknowledge her God given beauty-but she was just as strong and intelligent as she was beautiful. Ever forgiving, giving, loyal, pious, and grateful, God gave her everything because she was worthy of his gifts. Every day she was an inspiration as her faith in the almighty never wavered.
