Saul Mire, a loving, generous, spirited, and remarkably resilient soul, passed away on June 28, 2025, in Winchendon, Massachusetts, where he resided—born in Erath, LA, on June 19, 1936.
Saul was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country with honor and dignity—a little-known fact: Saul boxed in the United States Army. After retiring from the military, he continued to demonstrate his dedication to service by becoming a life member of the VFW and umpiring for Little League Baseball. Saul's commitment to service was unwavering, and his contributions were deeply appreciated. Saul was a man of many passions, which included traveling with his wife, watching baseball and LSU games, and arguing about politics. He also loved bowling and playing cards, especially bridge and pinochle.
Saul was a devoted husband to Bette Jane, whom he married on August 12, 1978. His love for his family was boundless, and he was a loving father to Cheryl (Larry) Benz, Christopher Mire, Mathew (Deirdre) Mire, Patrick (Jen) Mire, and his surrogate son, Henry Clifford. He was also a proud grandfather to Cody Mire, Brandon Todd, Serena Mire, Patrick Wilson, Katrina Wilson, Blake Mire, and Drake Mire. He also leaves behind his sister, Sister Mary Evelyn Mire, and his stepson, Spencer Ellis, as well as several other extended family members. Saul was preceded in death by his parents, Elias and Benite Mire, and his son, Ryan Mire.
Anyone who knew Saul will remember his sense of humor was unique with a Cajun flair.
