Saundra Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Schlientz & Moore Funeral Home - Dayton on Nov. 18, 2024.
Saundra Lee Gustin Smith was born on August 8, 1937, and passed away on November 16, 2024, at the age of 87. She grew up in Beavercreek, Ohio, on East Hills Lane where she and her brother helped build their home from cement blocks. She was the eldest child of Alvin U. Gustin and Vera R. Stephenson. She was married at Hawker Church in Beavercreek in June 1958 to David E. Smith until divorcing in 1976.
She is survived by her brother, Alvin (Ted) Gustin, organist from Alexandria, Va. Also surviving are Saundra's two beautiful daughters: Tamara K Smith (Wayne) Markworth and Lora L. Smith (Aaron) Kirk. She was very proud of her grandchildren: Andrew (Kara) Markworth, Daniel (Tricia) Babal, Christopher Babal, Jacob Babal, Brittney (Michael) Underwood, Cory Kirk, and Shelby Kirk who have nice memories of Christmas with Grandma. She was blessed to have 11 great-grandchildren: Margot Houser, True Houser, Kahlan Underwood, Mallory Kirk, Natalie Markworth, Brady Markworth, Abigail Babal, Calvin Underwood, Vera Babal, Wilder Kirk, and Elliott Babal.
Saundra graduated from Beavercreek High School, where she was a cheerleader, in 1955, and was very proud to graduate with an RN on scholarship from Miami Valley Hospital. She served for many years as a nurse around the Dayton area, working for both hospitals and physicians. She sadly spent her last years coping with the difficulties of dementia. Her family wishes her the peace she well deserves.
Services and great care have been entrusted to Schlientz & Moore Funeral Home, 1632 Wayne Ave Dayton, OH 45410, (937) 253-1441 Condolences, fond memories and photos may be shared on at: www.DaytonFunerals.com
