Scott Bruntjen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Paynic Home For Funerals - East Alton/Rosewood Heights on Mar. 24, 2025.
Our beloved Scott Herman Bruntjen, 68, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at OSF St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton.
He was born, one of a set of twins, on September 5, 1956 in Wood River, Illinois. He was the son of Herman Melvin and Mary Madeline (Hampton) Bruntjen of Bethalto.
Scott was soon familiar to many residents of Bethalto as their newspaper boy. For many years he could be seen early in the morning and late afternoons on his bike, delivering the news with his faithful, one eyed dog, "Mikey."
Scott graduated from CMHS in 1974, and served in the US Navy stationed in Hawaii. A proud US Navy Veteran, he then enrolled and graduated from SIUE with an electrical engineering degree. He soon opened, owned and operated Act, Inc., a control automation engineering service. He liked to say, "I make things move and shake." He wrote the computer programs for bottling and processing facilities all over the world, including the Lock and Dam in Alton.
Scott loved taking his family and friends to "the cabin" where he taught his children to love and appreciate all things outdoors. Along with Scott, they all love fishing, hiking, bonfires, bar-b-que, and camping. Scott loved his twin sister's Mexican food and homemade cookies, but his favorite meal was a pizza from Roma's. He was their first customer and it is his dollar they have framed on their wall as their first dollar they made.
He loved and collected old cars, and loved to attend big concerts and enjoyed his music.
While Scott was not big on church attendance he had attended Zion Lutheran as a youngster, and later the Presbyterian church. God was gracious enough to allow Scott to affirm his faith in the finished work of Jesus. His last words declared angels coming for him as he passed into eternity.
The loved ones he left behind to miss his quirky sense of humor and easy going ways are his wife, Maricel (Debulosan) Bruntjen of Rosewood Heights, IL; a son Matthew Bruntjen of Venice, FL; a daughter Jacqueline (Dave) Kull of Springfield, MO; his granddaughters, Elise and Chloe; and his sisters, Sharon Curtis of Warwick, MD; Linda (Don)Winegar of Sonoma, CA; his twin sister Shelley (Albert) Perez of Godfrey, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jacob Bruntjen (also a twin) and a sister Gloria Pearce.
A private celebration of life will take place later this year.
All tributes received will go to a memorial bench for Belk Park.

Scotty and I worked at Ralston Rurina for many years in Corporate engineering. Together for many years as co-workers and always had a great time together. I will miss him.
