Scott Canepa Obituary

Scott K. Canepa

Scott Krusee Canepa passed away of natural causes on December 30, 2020 at 56 years old. While he was taken far too soon, it is comforting for his family and close friends to know that he is now reunited with his mom Evelyn and father-figure Warren Welsh. Both Scott and Evelyn were born on March 13th, Friday the 13th, delivered by the same doctor, at the same hospital and had a bond like never seen before. Scott is survived by his uncles Gary Canepa (Lori) and Cleve Canepa (Julie), his cousins Ardea Canepa-Rotoli (Jarred), Lisa Nelson, Chad Piazzo (Carrie), Stephen Canepa and Nathan Canepa, his goddaughter Domisa Canepa-Rotoli and his beloved dog Jobear.

Scott was a fourth generation Italian Nevadan born in Reno on March 13, 1964. He spent a lot of time as a child out on the Canepa Ranch with his mom, uncles, grandparents and cousins. In his younger years, Scott was an avid golfer, skier and hunter. In more recent years, Scott spent a lot of time with family and friends traveling, RZR riding, boating and enjoying fine wines. Scott loved spending his summers with family and friends at Lake Tahoe enjoying the spectacular sunsets.

Scott graduated from Sparks High School in 1982. While attending college, he worked as a licensed real estate agent and then obtained his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1989. He then went on to receive his law degree with honors in 1991 from California Western School of Law in San Diego, California.

After practicing law in San Diego, Scott moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and ended up focusing his law partnerships and career on representing Plaintiff consumers. In fact, Scott was a pioneer in the fight for consumer rights in Nevada and participated in the creation of Nevada's first construction defect statute. Over the years, Scott spent countless hours both in the courtroom and at the legislature fighting for what he believed was right. Scott received numerous professional accolades throughout his legal career, including 2003 Trial Lawyer of the Year from the Nevada Trial Lawyers Association. Scott was the youngest attorney to ever receive the Association's most prestigious award. Scott was so well known and respected, that the City of Las Vegas acknowledged Scott's contribution to the community by proclaiming March 13, 2004 "Scott Canepa Day".

Anyone who knew Scott can attest to his generous and fun-loving nature. Whether it was in the courtroom or at a family/friend event, Scott had a commanding presence that could not be ignored. Scott lived life to the fullest and unfortunately, a light that shines as bright as he did tends to burn quickly. His bigger than life smile and loving bear hugs will be missed by all, family and friends alike.

There is a virtual zoom celebration of life scheduled for Saturday March 13, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. Go to https://www.gatheringus.com/memorial/scott-k-canepa/6286 for updates and information on how to attend and to share memories and photos of Scott. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society would be greatly appreciated. https://mssociety.donordrive.com/campaign/Scott-K--Canepa-Memorial-Fund As many know, Scott's Mom Evelyn suffered from MS, so this charity was near and dear to Scott's heart. Thank you all for your love and support during this very difficult time.

Scott Canepa improved the lives of thousands of homeowners through construction defect litigation by providing them with funds to make repairs to their homes. I am proud and honored to have been associated with those endeavors for 20 years. We also had a lot of fun along the way. We did well by doing good. There’s nothing wrong with that.

If anyone knows where his beloved dog, Jobear is, please, if you would, please contact me... I would love to give him an amazing life for Scott and for him. My condolences to his beloved family...
I remember receiving the great honor of meeting his amazing mother and hoping if I ever had a son, I wished that relationship for myself. I sure loved him as my good friend for 30 years. God bless all.

It saddens me to know you won´t be at our next reunion. You were the Giant Sequoia and I just a smaller tree. You brightened up our lives by being in your shadow. God bless and keep you until we meet again. Love, Amy
