Scott Richard Decker, Jr.

Scott R. Decker, Jr., 70 , was born February 4, 1955 in Elizabethtown, New York. The son of Scott R. Decker, Sr. and Theresa Vaughan, he was the second born of their six children.

Scott attended school in Elizabethtown until the age of seventeen when he left to pursue employment with his Aunt Maryann and Uncle Dave in LaGrange, Indiana. He spent his days working, choring and delivering for Lambright's Hatchery. This is where his distaste for future consumption of chicken was formed.

He returned home to Elizabethtown where he enlisted in the Army in 1974 at the age of nineteen. He served as a Diesel Mechanic until he was honorably discharged in 1976. His overseas service in Korea earned him a National Defense Medal as well as a Good Conduct Medal.

Scott then returned back to Elizabethtown where he was therefore employed as an Auto Mechanic at a local dealership in 1977. He worked for over 45 years until a brief "retirement". He returned part time as a floor supervisor (a job he held best at home as well), offering his vast knowledge to fellow mechanics and always making sure his best clientele was personally taken care of.

In between, you could usually find him tinkering in his garage at home- door opened up, ready for guests or a quick hello . His hands and mind always working his magic - determined to solve each puzzle before him, sometimes multiple at a time. A man of brute infinite knowledge.

Scott joined the Elizabethtown Volunteer Fire Department in 1979. 46 years of devotion to his community- always ready, able and willing. In 2005 he earned Fireman of the Year award for outstanding Life-Saving measures. A man always equipped to help, no matter the risk it may have entailed. When he wasn't running fearlessly toward danger and oncoming flames - you could find him proudly beaming and slinging candy while driving the pump truck for E'town Day and cranking out french fries and fried dough hastily before fireworks.

Scott's greatest pride was his family - as well as his friends that became family (boastfully too many to name individually). He married the love of his life, Lisa Shovan on May 23rd, 1987. Together they raised three children; Noel, Catherine and Jamison. His love and heart expanded thrice more with the addition of his three grandchildren; Theanna, Elliott and Allaina. The BEST dads really are promoted to the GREATEST papas! When he wasn't parading them around for a tractor ride or hanging out in the garage - he was usually helping them get into mischief they hadn't thought of yet or sharing his birthday candle wishes.

During his last days of mechanic duties, he worked tirelessly and meticulously on his personal dream car. He proudly purchased his 1970 AAR Plymouth Barracuda - in Rally Red- before he joined the Army. Dubbed the "local James Dean" with his flowy locks - rumor has it he could be found doing donuts in the middle of town. During some time apart, they were reunited and he was entrusted for the precise restoration of his first-hand classic for a new owner. A project he unfortunately was unable to see through in his time here.

Scott is very lovingly and proudly survived by his wife Lisa, his daughter Noel and spouse Alonzo, his daughter Catherine and his son, his boy, Jamison. He is also proudly survived by his grandchildren - his pride and joy - Theanna, Elliott and Allaina.

He is also honorably and devotedly survived by his sister Lenora (Thomas) Bisacquino, Lori (Kyle) Wrisley, Robert (Shelly) Decker and Richard (Bambi) Decker. His doting nephews and nieces and great-nephews and great-nieces. Thankfully our family has grown so immeasurably over the years. He loved them all in their own ways.

He is predeceased by his beloved "Gramps" Robert Vaughan, his beloved older sister Linda, his father Scott R. Decker, Sr. and his mother Theresa.

An absolute legend, hero and protector gone entirely too soon. Sorely missed, forever loved and cherished forever and more.

A remembrance and get-together will be held at the Elizabethtown Fish and Game Club on Sunday, August 31st at 1:00 PM. Please wear your best flannel, comfy jeans and pack a folding chair! Bring your memories and stories to tell about our steadfast warrior.
