WAPAKONETA -- Scott D. Engle, 59, of Wapakoneta, died unexpectedly at 7:48 p.m., Sat. June 8, 2024, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, OH, following a major heart attack. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, friend, and coach.
Scott was born on May 19, 1965 in Marietta Ohio. He was the son of Thomas G. & Francia (Rake) Engle, who survive in Wapakoneta. After graduating from Wapakoneta High School in 1983, he served in the Army Reserves. Following his service, Scott spent time in various states before settling back in his cherished hometown of Wapakoneta. On Oct. 22, 1999, he married Melanie K. Miller, who survives. For the past 14 years, Scott had been working at Cenovus Lima Refinery, which was a place that he was incredibly proud to work.
Throughout his professional and coaching career, Scott valued every friend he gained.
He was known for his hard-work, dedication, and passion for helping others.
But more than anything, Scott was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who loved Jesus Christ. His children grew up knowing they were prayed for and provided for, all by a father with an innate ability to fill their home with laughter. He was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced. He was a shelter of safety and an extension of God's love to his wife daily. While Scott's favorite sport was baseball, his favorite to coach was whatever his children loved most. He spent years on baseball and football fields, basketball courts, and when he wasn't the coach or referee, he was the biggest fan in the auditorium and stands.
Scott's children were his pride and joy. They know that they would not be the confident leaders they are today without hearing these five words from him every morning, "Go and be a leader."
Other survivors include, 6 children, Andrew (Chelsea) Parker, Lima, OH, and their children Maisie and Sadie Parker, Alexander (Rachel) Parker, Findlay, OH, and their children, Charlotte and Savannah Parker, Braden (Brittany) Engle, Lebanon, OH, and their son, Beckham Engle, Kaitlyn Engle (Fiancé – Kevin Williams), Wapakoneta, Kyleigh Engle, Wapakoneta, Kaleb Engle, Wapakoneta; mother-in-law, Betty Miller; 2 siblings, Kathryn (Jim) Tatham, Beaverton, OR, Peter (Karen) Engle, Willowick, OH' 21 nieces & nephews.
His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m., Fri. June 14, 2024 at the Eley Funeral Home & Crematory, Wapakoneta, Pastor Daniel Messner officiating. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W. Post #8445.
