Scott Mason, 65, of rural Pelican Rapids, MN, died on Monday, March 18, 2024, at his home.
Scott Alan Mason was born on December 29, 1958, to George Louis and Helen Marjorie (Ladbury) Mason in Crookston, MN the fifth child of eight. He started out his young years in Valley City, ND and graduated high school from Chaffee, ND in 1977. Growing up he played football, basketball, track, and baseball. He remained active in sports, playing in the Barnesville men’s basketball league and loved playing softball on the Trout Electric and Tharaldson softball teams traveling to compete in national tournaments for many years.
On August 23, 1980, he married the love of his life Cindy Jo Haarsager in Valley City, ND. Scott and Cindy began their married life in West Fargo, ND and moved to Barnesville, MN in 1990 where they raised their two boys, Ryan and Kyle.
Most of his working years were spent with K+L Construction in Fargo where he worked as a concrete foreman. He took pride in all the buildings he helped build throughout Fargo-Moorhead and his coworkers became lifelong friends. Scott also volunteered with the Barnesville Ambulance, Special Olympics, and ALS fundraising events.
One of his favorite things was following his boys’ many sporting activities, continuing to attend Barnesville games after they both graduated. He and Cindy shared a love of travel and enjoyed many cruises together. He enjoyed photography, capturing every trip, birthday, holiday and family gathering.
Scott loved golfing with his sons, friends and family. He didn’t miss an opportunity to hit the course. Scott looked forward to the annual golf trip to Alexandria with friends, weekly men’s league, and North Dakota Senior league.
Anyone who knew him knows how much he loved the Minnesota Twins and attending games. Particularly the home opener, an annual family game and bobblehead give away days. He was a dedicated caregiver to his wife through her ALS diagnosis and was a strength to his family in highs and lows. In recent years he continued traveling with his girlfriend Jennifer Canonica, socializing with old and new friends, and was a very proud grandfather who spent time with his grandson every chance he could.
He is survived by two sons Kyle, Moorhead, and Ryan (Jenna) Moorhead; grandson Caleb Mason; brothers and sisters, Elroy Mason, Fargo, Penny (Cecil) Mosher, Erhard, MN, Rick Mason, Fargo; Candy Norquist, Fargo; Jeff (Sandy) Mason, Prairie du sac, WI; Roland (Janet) Mason, Williston, ND; Corey Norton, Fargo; sisters in law, Dawn (Tim Gunderson) Estuesta, Blaine, Mn, Kim Draper, West Fargo, Korreen Mason, West Fargo; girlfriend, Jennifer Canonica; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Cindy in 2021, brother Randy Mason; brothers in law, Alan Haarsager; Darrell Norquist, his parents George and Helen Mason, his in-laws Alfred and Dorine Haarsager, and grandparents Elroy and Marjorie Ladbury.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be designated by family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 12, from 2:00-5:00 pm, at the Pitchfork (20063 Hwy 34, Barnesville, MN). We invite everyone to come in their favorite MN Twins or any sports themed clothing.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
