Obituary published on Legacy.com by Petkus Lemont Funeral Home on Sep. 14, 2023.
With deepest sadness, his family announces the passing of Scott Martin Shreffler, 53, formerly of
Lemont, IL on Thursday (Sept. 7, 2023) at Memorial Central in Colorado Springs because of an ATV accident on Wed. Sept. 6 in Buena Vista. He was surrounded by family members near and far with the abilities of modern technology.
He was born Sept. 16, 1969, in
Joliet, IL., the son of John Shreffler and Geraldine (Ludas) Vileta. Scott married his first true love and lifelong business partner, Krystyna Kwak on Sept. 29, 1990, at St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in
Lemont, IL. They would have celebrated 33 years later this month. In Nov. 1993, he moved to Buena Vista, Co. to manage the family owned and operated business, the Sumac Lodge. He will be greatly missed by many at the Lodge and in Buena Vista. In 1993, they welcomed their beautiful daughter Lauryn M. Shreffler of Littleton, Co. who makes them very proud parents of all her accomplishments including her recent engagement to Zac Potter.
Scott's departure from this earth was very similar to his dangerous and adventurous life. At a very early age Scotty, would be racing his bicycles and go-carts with his older brothers enduring scars and bruises along the way. Later, his Uncle Ted introduced the family to summer weekends at dragstrips and stock car racing. Scott bought his own funny car and enrolled in Frank Hawley's Drag Racing School for instructional lessons on his birthday in 1996. This was the only schooling Scott enjoyed! Unfortunately, because of an accident leaving him with a debilitating back injury he was unable to carry out his dream of becoming a professional driver. His car and trailer are still waiting in his garage.
Scott always left an impression wherever he was present. His comical sense of humor, keen intelligence, impeccable clothing, watches, sunglasses and his money clip filled with dough was undeniably his trademark. He would make you laugh so hard and for hours, until your abs hurt. Scott laughed and loved deeply and privately enjoyed outsmarting us all. And in his own way he would leave without saying goodbye. His accident allowed him to avoid saying goodbye or hearing the sadness in our goodbyes. Scott was all about style.
A quote from his newest sister-in-law, " I didn't have the pleasure of knowing Scotty. I'm sure he was a special person because he was a part of all of you". Scotty was a part of a large, blended family as a baby. He was the youngest but tallest brother. He loved his family so much and at 14 years old wrote a letter that forever rings true. "I will always be there to help you when you need it!" His generous giving was often appreciated and received.
Surviving is his wife, Krys, daughter Lauryn (Zac), mother, Geri (Jim) Vileta of
Lemont, IL, mother-in-law Theresa Kwak and siblings:
