Obituary of Sergeant First Class Sean W. Acker
Sean William Acker
New Jersey State Police Sergeant First Class
Sean William Acker was born on May 24, 1977, in
Abington, Pennsylvania, and was raised in Howell Township, New Jersey, alongside his brothers. From an early age, Sean was known for his warm spirit, engaging personality, and genuine love for others. His youth was marked by close friendships, active involvement in sports, and a strong sense of community, as he played soccer, baseball, and basketball and spent much of his time surrounded by friends.
Sean proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force, enlisting in 1998 and attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. As one of the original Ravens, he formed lifelong friendships and demonstrated the discipline, leadership, and resilience that would guide him throughout a lifetime of service.
Following his honorable military service, Sean continued his dedication to protecting others by joining the New Jersey State Police in 2006. Through years of steadfast commitment and professionalism, he rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class. He served with integrity, strength, and compassion, guided by a deep belief in being part of something greater than himself, both in uniform and at home.
Sean met the love of his life, Lisa, shortly before beginning his career as a recruit with the New Jersey State Police. At that time, Lisa was serving as one of his instructors, already five years into her own distinguished career. Approximately one year later, their paths crossed again at an event, where a meaningful and lasting connection was formed. From that moment forward, they built a life together rooted in love, partnership, and mutual respect. They were blessed with two children, Connor and Samantha, who were the greatest joys of Sean's life and the center of his world.
In the final years of his life, Sean faced his situation with remarkable courage, determination, and toughness. He fought with the same strength and resilience that defined every chapter of his life, never allowing his circumstances to diminish his love for his family or his concern for others. Throughout this journey, he remained humble, grateful, and steadfast, drawing strength from those around him.
Sean would be deeply humbled by the extraordinary outpouring of love, support, and compassion shown by his friends, family, and the community. The kindness extended to his family, the countless messages, prayers, and acts of support reflect the profound impact he had on so many lives and stand as a testament to the man he was.
Sean was defined by his loyalty, quiet strength, and sense of humor. He was a devoted husband, a loving and dedicated father, a steadfast son, brother, uncle and a loyal friend who could always be counted on. His legacy is reflected not only in his professional accomplishments, but in the countless lives he touched through his kindness, generosity, and sincere care for others.
Sean will be remembered for the way he lived his life. That is with heart, purpose, and unwavering dedication to those he loved and served.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa; his cherished children, Connor and Samantha; his parents, Cyd and Mark Acker; his brother, Grant, and Grant's fiancée, Katie Mitchell; his brother, James Acker; his mother-and father-in-law, Linda and Steve Daroff; his brother-in-law, Dave Daroff, and his wife, Dawn; his nieces, Brianna and Bethany; his godson, Kellan Verney; his godparents Sue and Stan Brzozowski; many extended family members, those he served alongside, childhood and lifelong friends, neighbors and sports families who will continue to honor and carry forward his memory.
Sean's legacy endures through his family, his community, and the lasting example he set for all who had the privilege of knowing him.
