Sebastiano "Sebby" Liburdi 97, of New Britain passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by his
loving daughters, on November 6, 2025. He was born on November 30,1927 in Frosinone, ltaly to the late Vincenzo Liburdi and Ascenza (De Santis) Liburdi. Dad proudly served in the Italian Army, attended college and became an elementary school teacher. He was the devoted husband of his late wife, Angela (Cefaratti) Liburdi, married for 54 years. They were married in Italy, in 1952 then upon coming to this country, he proudly became an American citizen in 1956.
Sebastian was a draftsman by trade at Stanley Magic Door, Farmington, retiring in 1990 after 37 years. He was an avid mall walker and enjoyed coffee with his friends afterwards. He also enjoyed exercising at the New Britain Senior Center. The senior center was an important part of Sebastian and Angela's life and they took
many trips with their friends. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Jerome church as well as a longtime member of The Campodipietra Society.
His backyard was his pride and joy, filled with beautiful fragrant flowers and a vegetable garden that he planted
every spring.
Wine making and canning tomatoes were also an important part of our Italian culture that dad made sure we all enjoyed. Making Chamel cookies was an added treat that everyone loved and looked forward to.
He leaves three loving daughters, Linda Magnano and partner Michael Osga of
Bristol, Maryann Wiszniak of New Britain, who was his caregiver for the past
11 years, Lisa Bochenek and
husband Richard of Bristol. He leaves six grandchildren, Brian Magnano and partner Sarah Latimer of Bristol, Lori Grady and husband Michael of Bristol, Garrett Bochenek and wife Gabrielle of Berlin, Jaime Landry and husband Nathan of Bristol, Michael Wiszniak of Enfield and Sarah Wiszniak of Washington, DC. He also leaves 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Riccardo Liburdi of South Windsor and Filomena Heckler of Meriden; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents he is predeceased by his son-in-law, Frank Magnano; brother, Vincenzo Liburdi, Jr. his wife, Nicoletta Liburdi; a niece, Laura (Liburdi) Pagliaruli; sister- in-law, Elisabetta Liburdi; brother-in-law, Donald Heckler; mother and father-in-law, Anastasio and Maria (Paventi) Cefaratti; brothers-in-law Thomas and Joseph Cefaratti and nephew, Thomas Cefaratti, Jr.
Dad had many funny and philosophical quotes in life.
With his favorite being."Say hello to the first person
you see! "
We miss you dad. We love and cherish you so much. Thank you for giving us a wonderful life. You are in our hearts forever.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hartford Healthcare Hospice, especially aid, Krystal; nurse, Damian and many other caregivers as well as Kia and Gloria from Almost Family for their loving and compassionate care and Daybreak of Plainville for their kindness and helping dad.
