Seferino Archuleta, 88, a resident of Hernandez was born on April 17, 1937 in Ojo Caliente, New Mexico. Sef passed away on October 6, 2025 of a lengthy illness. Sef grew up on Comanche and Ojo Caliente. Sef enlisted and proudly served in the U. S. Navy. Following his military service, he made a career in welding. One of his most memorable memories was of working on the Apollo Lunar Module Project. Sef taught and retired as a welding instructor at Northern New Mexico Community College. One of his highlights was leading his students in a successful statewide welding competition through the Vocational Clubs of America. Sef enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and camping. He also was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Bein the oldest of the family he was called “The Godfather” by his siblings. He is remembered as being a sharp dresser and likes to wear suits. One of his favorite greetings was “hey bro”.
Preceded in death by his mother, Anita Trejo and Father, Felix Archuleta, two sons James C. and Allen C. Archuleta, brother, Dilio Archuleta and sisters Helen and Patsy Archuleta and great grandson Joseph Martinez.
Sef is survived by his devoted wife Maryann of 53 years. Also, survived by his son, Anthony G. (Rebecca), daguters Valentina (George) Martinez, and Brenda E. (John) Baca. Step-children , Cindy Romero, Joleen (Richard) Montoya, and Ronnie Velasquez. Brothers: Adelmo, Arthur and Joe Archuleta. Sisters: Ruby (Art) Marquez, Vicky Padilla, Patsy (Frank) Martinez, Annabelle (Jorge) Guerra, MaryLou (Tony) Chacon. Sef is also survived by twenty-one grandchildren, forty one great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge his caretakers, Cindy Romero, Joleen Montoya, Valentina Martinez, and granddaughter Erica Velasquez. Heartfelt thanks to AmberCare and Fresnius Kidney Care of Espanola.
Public viewing will be held on Wednesday October 15, 2025 at 5:30 pm in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home, with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 pm. Mass of Christian burial is pending.
The family of Seferino Archuleta has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory of the Espanola Valley 505-747-7477.
