Selene Leonard

Jeanette "Selene" Leonard, age 70 of Jasper, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2026. She was born on November 13, 1955 in Canton, Georgia to the late Leroy and Jessie Payne.

Selene enjoyed crocheting, walking on the beach in Savannah, and playing games on the computer. She was known as a hard worker who carried a strong faith and was a devoted prayer warrior. Selene loved singing gospel music and found great joy in her faith.

Above all, Selene made her family her greatest priority. She loved them deeply and treasured every moment spent with them, especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her love, faith, and dedication to her family, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Leonard; sister, Esther Moody; and brother, Tommy Payne.

Selene is survived by her daughters, Rhonda Samples, Bobbie Jo Key and Jessica Samples; grandchildren, Cassie Samples, Kayla Archer, Heather Key, Cody Key, Brady Key, Haley Key, Travis Young, Jordan Sinard and Maverick Samples; great-grandchildren, Levi Hancock, Connor Campbell, Paisley Campbell and Waylon Archer; sisters, Helen Burke (Jerry), Evelyn Cammons (Ray) and Mary "Dee" Jastrzemski; brothers, Will Payne and Eddie Payne; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2026 at the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jeff Garland officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, March 7th from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 8th from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. Interment will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at the Georgia National Cemetery.
