Seng Ky Tang was the 2nd oldest and the only boy in his family. He is survived by his wife, Bunmarya Sour; their son, Sean Kai Tang; mother, Ov Kim Chhour; older sister, Seng Hy Tang; and younger sisters, Seng Leang Tang and Seng Muy Tang. Seng Ky's family survived the Pol Pot war in Cambodia (1975-1979) and his parents were separated after the war ended. His mother took her four children and made the escape with her extended family to a refugee camp in Thailand. His father decided to stay in Cambodia to care for his elderly parents as he was the only surviving male in his family after the war. Seng Ky's father ended up staying in Cambodia, remarried, and had three other sons. He ended up passing away when Seng Ky was about 16-17 years old. Seng Ky and his mother and siblings lived in the refugee camp in Thailand for about 18 months and then got sponsored by the LDS church. They arrived at Salt Lake City, Utah as Chinese Cambodian immigrants in the early 1980s.
After high school, Seng Ky joined the U.S. army and served in Germany. After he left for boot camp, his family received a letter with a picture of him and his high school sweetheart through the U.S. mail. That was how he informed them "I got married." That was his way of doing things.
Seng Ky earned three degrees all from the University of Utah: political science, economics, and accounting. He worked in finance and a number of other fields and companies (i.e. E Trade, Fidelity, UPS). His work took him internationally at times. Aside from his work, his other hobbies were playing tennis with his friends at Liberty Park, riding his bikes, and working on cars. He also loved to cycle and did the Pacific Bike route where he rode his bike from Canada to San Francisco and then San Francisco to Mexico. He also rode cross country on his motorcycle. He was a free spirit and did things his own way. He did not care what others thought and lived life as he wanted.
Seng Ky was married to his true love, Bunmarya Sour for almost 2 years. He had his first and only baby on February 15, 2026, Sean Kai Tang. He wanted his son's name to be like his and have the same initials. Additionally, Seng Ky was at times called "Sean" when he was growing up as it was very similar to the first part of his name "Seng." He liked the name Kai because it sounded like the 2nd part of his name "Ky."
It is with incredible devastation and loss that Seng Ky ended up having cardiac arrest unexpectedly the night of Saturday, February 21, 2026. He suffered extensive permanent brain damage and was taken off life support and passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026. He was surrounded by his loved ones and will forever be missed. Ever since he went into ICU, his family had prayed fervently for a miracle. He was so young and still had a lifetime of memories to make with his newborn son and wife. The only thing that brings his family comfort and peace is knowing there was a miracle that occurred with his passing. He was able to donate his organs (liver and both kidneys) to three different people and will be able to give them new lives and new beginnings. There was truly a miracle that occurred with Seng Ky's passing; just not the one his family wanted. Seng Ky had a way of doing things. Seng Ky is the first person to donate his organs out of both sides of his parents' extended family. Baby Sean will grow up knowing that his dad died a hero.
