Senhorinha Costa Soares, lovingly known as Sarah, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Steere House in
Providence, RI. Born in Bretanha, São Miguel, Azores, on April 22, 1932, Sarah was a cherished matriarch and a beacon of selfless love whose life was a testament to her unwavering faith and passion for community.
Sarah immigrated to Providence in 1957, where she became a beloved resident for over six decades. She was the devoted wife of the late Jose Viveiros Soares and the loving daughter of the late Manuel da Costa and Senhorinha De Sousa (Farias) Tavares.

Sarah was also a proud grandmother to six grandchildren: the late Kelly Memoli (husband, Vincent), Nicole Gardella (husband, Joshua), Stephanie Sibicky (husband, Christopher), Corinne Soares-Herren (husband, Jesse), Ryan Soares (wife, Megan), and Sara Soares; and eight great-grandchildren.
Sarah was predeceased by her siblings, Adelide Lieboner, Aldina Mello, Georgina da Ponte, Jose Tavares, Luis Tavares, Mary Farias, and Silvino Tavares. She is also remembered by numerous nieces and nephews who were touched by her grace and caring nature.
For 25 years, Sarah worked as a machine operator at Davol Rubber Company and was a dedicated parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church. Sarah's involvement with the Holy Rosary/Spirit Sodality and her role as a founding member of the Malassadas Sales for the Holy Spirit Feasts reflected her commitment to her faith and community.
Sarah will be remembered for her quiet strength, unwavering devotion to her family, and ability to bring comfort to everyone around her. Sarah helped everyone she met and always saw the good in people, leaving behind a legacy of love and service that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
