Quijano, Serapio Abelardo of Flushing, age 101, died Monday, August 11, at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 15, 2025, at Rossell Funeral Home. Fr. Thomas Firestone will officiate. Burial will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home until the time of the service at 1:30 p.m. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Serapio was born in Habana, Cuba on November 14, 1923, the son of Cirilo and Paula (Quijano) Torres. He married Hilda Santos on December 8, 1952. In Cuba, he was a faithful leader of his church. With his family, he immigrated to the United States in 1968. They became members of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and he was an active and faithful member for many years and founded the Club Misionero Guadalupano. Serapio worked for St. Vincent De Paul and later for General Motors at Buick City. Together with his wife, they enjoyed traveling to Florida to visit relatives. His great joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Serapio is survived by his son, Abelardo (Sherry) Quijano; daughter, Hilda Quijano; grandchildren, Andy Quijano, Chris Quijano, Kelley Quijano, Chrissy Cooper, Becky Brant; and great-grandchildren, Luke, Lia, Robin, Raven, Marcelo, Malakai, Harvey, Cooper, Aiden. He was preceded in death by his wife on September 12, 2005.
