Serena Merritt's Story: It is with full hearts that we celebrate the beautiful life of Serena Merritt, who peacefully transitioned from this life on October 12, 2025, at the age of 73. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 9, 1952, to the late Spurgeon Merritt and Golda Mae Hall, Serena was a light that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Serena's journey was one marked by faith, loyalty, and love that overflowed from her heart. She grew up in a home filled with warmth and laughter, alongside her beloved sisters, Yolanda Williams and Corliss Merritt, who have also gone on before her. Though she was the middle child of her family, Serena carried a wisdom and strength beyond her years, qualities that guided her throughout her life.

For more than three decades, Serena dedicated her time and talent as a Data and Check Processor with 1st Atlanta, Wachovia, and Wells Fargo Banks. Her colleagues often described her as dependable, meticulous, and full of grace, a woman who led by example, never raising her voice but always raising the standard.

Her truest calling, however, was in her walk with God. Serena was a faithful and devoted member of Power of Faith International Ministries in Decatur, Georgia, where she served joyfully until her health began to fail. Her presence in the church was a reflection of her spirit, steady, giving, and overflowing with compassion. She was the kind of woman who remembered birthdays, prayed for others without being asked, and found joy in every act of kindness.

Though Serena never had children of her own, her heart had endless room for the ones she loved. Her nieces and nephews: Carlos Merritt, Emmett Williams (deceased), DyShelia Williams (deceased), Carletta Merritt, Jacquelyn Merritt, and Lynesia Williams, were her pride and joy. To them, she was more than an aunt; she was a second mother, a confidante, and their biggest cheerleader. Serena's love wrapped around them like a soft blanket, comforting and constant.

Serena Merritt lived a life that reminded us all of what truly matters: faith, family, and the quiet power of a generous heart. Her laughter, her prayers, and her unshakable love will echo in the hearts of all who knew her.

We will miss her voice, her wisdom, her smile, but we will carry her love with us always.

"Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord." – Matthew 25:23
