Sergeant Lane J. Hellwig, 22, of Fort Greely, AK passed away on July 5, 2025.
He was born on January 14, 2003, in Freeport to Jeffrey and Tana (Cummins) Hellwig. Lane had a deep Christian faith. He loved to play soccer, go fishing and four-wheeling and watch movies. He also had a great love for cats (Nugget) and all kinds of dogs (Marylin). Lane graduated from Freeport High School in 2021 and had enlisted in the United States Army in 2020. He married Britton Philpot, whom he met as a sophomore in high school, on August 5, 2022. His favorite times were those that he spent with his kids, nieces, nephews and family.
Lane is survived by his wife, Britton; daughters Avelyn and Raven; parents, Jeffrey and Tana Hellwig; brother Mason (Kara) Hellwig; sisters, Heather (David) Artman and Whitney Hellwig, and nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his grandfather, Lyle Dahms; grandmother, Gwendolyn Cummins; uncle, Warren Hale, cousin Cody Hale, and aunt, MaryBeth Dahms Coleman.
Visitation will be held Burke Tubbs Funeral Home Freeport on Friday, July 25th from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. with Funeral Service following at 1:00 pm.
