Mr. Sergiu F. Luchian, of Waltham, died Tuesday, September 27, 2011 in his home after fighting a brave battle against cancer. He was 58. Sergiu was born in Bucharest, Romania a son of Florin Luchian and the late Maria (Jipa) Luchian. He was educated in Romania where has earned his PE in Civil Engineering. He immigrated to the United States in the 1970's settling in Boston. He was introduced to Sorana Ailinca and after a courtship they married on August 8, 1998 in Brookline. They moved to Waltham over 10 years ago. He worked in both the public and private sector as a civil engineer spending most of his time involved in Boston's Big Dig Construction project. Sergiu had many passions but reading ranked among the highest. Anything he could get his hands on he would read. He had an affinity and knowledge for automobiles, their mechanics, speed and design. Savvy with computers he had a gift and ability to do most anything with them. He also loved music from different genres…classical to techno. Social by nature he was always there to lend a hand to family and friends. He leaves his wife of 13 years, Sorana Ailinca-Luchian; his children, Aiden I. Luchian and Isabella D. Luchian, all of Waltham and Sara Luchian of Philadelphia; his father Florin Luchian of Bucharest; his sister, Mariana Calinoiu of Bucharest and a host of friends and colleagues. Family and friends will honor and remember Sergiu's life by gathering on Friday, September 30th in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20) Waltham where his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
