Dear Friends and Family,
It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of our beloved Seta Jessourian. Seta peacefully passed into eternal rest on Friday, December 26th, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 87.
Seta's life journey began in Aleppo, Syria, where she was born to the late Armenouhie and Bedros. She married the love of her life, Sebouh Jessourian, on September 21, 1961. Together, with their son Vicken, they embarked on a new chapter in the United States in August 1964, settling in
Oakland, NJ. Shortly after, they welcomed their daughter Taline and became active members of Saint Leon Armenian Church in Fair Lawn, NJ - a place that quickly became their second home.
In December 1974, Seta and her family moved to
Franklin Lakes, NJ, where she spent the remainder of her years. Seta began working at Sears Roebuck as a sales associate and was later promoted to handling bookkeeping and office tasks. In 1983, she left Sears to work alongside her husband, Sebouh, at Franklin Lakes Liquors. During this time, Seta pursued her passion for wine, becoming a certified sommelier. The couple sold their business in 1997, embracing retirement and cherishing the arrival of their first grandchild, Kevin, followed by three more grandchildren, Tamar, Ryan, and Adrine.
Seta's true joy was being a homemaker to her children, grandchildren, and husband. She ensured that her home was always well stocked with all the ingredients needed to prepare wonderful Armenian recipes that her family and friends adored. Her children fondly remember the meals she prepared as not only nutritious and delicious but also as a form of love.
Starting in the late 1970s, Seta became an avid exerciser, maintaining a daily workout regimen that included walking, swimming, weight training, and stretching. She continued to exercise throughout her life, adapting her routine as needed but never missed a day until the last month of her life.
Seta was a devoted member of the Saint Leon Woman's Guild for over 50 years, contributing her cooking skills to many church events, including the Saint Leon Picnic and Food Festival. She was especially known for making Armenian string cheese, a favorite at these events. Seta also served as an Armenian School teacher at Saint Leon during the 1960s and 1970s, fostering a love for her culture and heritage.
Seta's love for her church was evident in the close friendships she formed with fellow parishioners, with whom she socialized, prayed, and enjoyed life. She was a dear wife to the late Sebouh Jessourian, a loving mother to Vicken and Taline, a dear sister to Garbis, Lena, John, and the late Aida, and a cherished grandmother (known as Setamommy) to Kevin, Tamar, Ryan, and Adrine. She was also an adored mother-in-law to Kathy and Haig.
Seta will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She will be remembered for her kind heart, loving nature, and unwavering devotion to family, friends, and parish. Thank you for keeping Seta and her family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at St. Leon Armenian Church. The funeral service will follow at 10:30 am at the church. Interment will take place following the funeral service at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ.
