With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Seth Alexander Smith, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this life peacefully on Monday, April 21, 2025 at the age of 80. Seth's warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love for his family will remain forever etched in the hearts of those who knew him. Born March 7, 1945, Seth lived a life defined by quiet strength, deep compassion, and a devotion to the people he held dear. He was the sixth of nine children of Roberta (Murray) and Harry Smith, and brother to Harry, Barbara, Roberta, Chris, Donna, Todd, Shari and Scott. He was the loving and steadfast husband of Jo-Ellen née Vietheer, his partner in life for 55 cherished years. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and resilience. Seth was the proud father of three daughters-Heather, Carrie, and the late Melissa. His love for them was boundless, and he carried the loss of Melissa with quiet grace, honoring her memory every day with the way he lived and loved. He welcomed two sons-in-law into the family with open arms-James Strain and David O'Connell-forming deep bonds built on mutual respect and affection. He was also a devoted grandfather to Melinda and Patrick, who brought him immense joy and pride. His gentle nature, stories, and steady presence will remain a guiding light in their lives. Those who knew Seth will remember his humility, his unwavering moral compass, and his kindness. He found joy in simple moments-whether tending a garden, helping a neighbor, sharing his experience as a Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon handler, volunteering with the VFW Post in Bethpage or simply spending time with family around the dinner table. Though his physical presence is gone, Seth's spirit lives on in the lives he touched. His legacy is one of love, patience, and grace. The family will receive visitors Thursday, April 24th, 2-4 and 7-9 pm, at Arthur F. White's Funeral Home in Farmingdale. Family and Friends gathering Friday, April 25 at 10 am, at the funeral home. Interment with military honors following at Calverton National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Seth's memory to the Lustgarten Pancreatic Cancer Research fund or Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, reflecting his hope that cancer cures are found. Rest peacefully, Seth. You will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
