Sgt. Rodney J. “Rod” Wise, age 70, of Meadville, passed away Thursday evening, March 20, 2025, in his residence.
He was born in Meadville on May 13, 1954, the son of William G. and Betty Jean (Sibley) Wise.
He was a 1972 graduate of Meadville High School and on September 17, 2023, Rod married Rev. Dr. Patricia Lynn Giles- Wise, she survives. Rod attended Gannon University and was a graduate of Mercyhurst University where he received his degree in Criminal Justice. He started his career at Conneaut Lake Park as chief of police, City of Meadville Police Department, Crawford County Sheriff’s Department and is currently a Sergeant with West Mead Township. He also drove and conducted tours for Anderson Bus and Corey Limousine. Rod truly loved being a police officer and served local communities for 52 years. He was always fair in dealing with the public on their worst days and would treat everyone the same.
He enjoyed hunting, outdoors, music, traveling and cooking. Rod was a member of the choral group Yesterday’s Sound and Meadville FOP. He had a very strong Christian faith and was a member of Adamsville Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by the love of his life Patty Lynn; two children, Seth Wise of Meadville and Bethany Wise of Maryland; a stepson Justin Deeter and his wife Lauren of Missouri; a sister Karen Crump of Meadville; a sister-in-law, Patricia Ann Wise of Meadville; six grandchildren and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother William G. Wise, Jr., and a brother-in-law, Roger M. Crump.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 6:00 PM in ROSE AND WAID FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, from 4:00 PM until the time of service at 6:00 PM with his wife the Rev. Dr. Patricia Giles-Wise, officiating.
